Michelle - Tasks arrangement

As discussed from today. Research topics will be assigned as follow:
Jenni - Insulation (Roof, wall, floor, idea of how structure combine with insulation, cladding)
Alison - Ventilation (use of mechanical or natrual ventilation? would openings affect temperature of the house?)
Maggie - Solar panel heating/photovoltaic, Hot water system and distribution
Michelle - Water harvesting and roof design, waste and sewerage disposal

Our ideal house should try to include materials that are NZ made to achieve low embodied energy. Sustainable materials are also a good option.

Meeting is on thursday after tech lecture. We will also be talking with the tutor on thurs. Hopefully we will get some time to organise our stuff before meeting with the tutor =]

happy researching guys~~!

Aim: application to a design project of theoretical knowledge -acquired in preceding semesters and further increasing –about building energy efficiency and thermal, visual and acoustic comfort

Task: To develop the concept [orientation, structure, material, energy production] and to design of a prefabricated zero energy living unit (stand alone) for an individual or a couple

Energy: On-site energy production

Water: Water harvesting and an-site treatment

ASSIGNMENT 01 [submission 1 April 2010] 30% of final mark

Submission format: Poster A1

Site: Auckland City Campus [see map]

Energy strategy [losses/gains]:

Concept for energy savings + on-site energy production

for heating/cooling, DHW and lighting

Compact layout [unit = container size; modular]

Design Technology: Prefabrication system

Structure and materials

Water: Water harvesting and an-site treatment

ASSIGNMENT 02 [submission 10 June 2010] 70% of final mark
